The Big Band Dance was once again a tremendous success! We raised approximately $16,500 from the dance and $9,000 from the online auction for a total of $25,500! We want to thank everyone who volunteered or attended for helping support our students in their musical journeys.

December 2019
Congratulations to all the ensembles for a phenomenal Fall Concert! The Jazz Bands collaborated with vocalists to an unprecedented extent, the Concert Band cultivated the holiday spirit with Leroy Anderson’s “Sleigh Ride,” and the Orchestra was glowing in its performance of the first movement of Dvorak’s New World Symphony, one of the most challenging pieces it has ever played.

The Bands and Orchestra kicked off the new school year with thrilling performances at the Meet the Bands and Orchestra Night on October 3.
May 2019
What a year! The Orchestra performed once again at Carnegie Hall. Jazz III and the Concert Band flourished in the San Diego Heritage Festival. The Big Band Dance and our first ever online auction were both tremendous successes that raised much-needed funds to support our musicians.

The Orchestra performed in Carnegie Hall for the second time since its inception as part of the highly prestigious and selective National Band and Orchestra Festival. Please enjoy these pictures and audio recordings from the New York trip and phenomenal Carnegie performance:

March 2019
Jazz III and Concert Band both had extremely successful performances in the San Diego Heritage Festival. Jazz III placed first of all jazz bands and received a gold award and the Adjudicator’s Award for Outstanding Band of the Weekend, while Concert Band placed second in its category and received a silver award. M-A also received the the Sweepstakes Award for having the highest combined score of its two bands. Neekon Saadat (trombone) and Bart Baker (piano) received Outstanding Soloist awards.

A huge thanks to everyone who volunteered at the Big Band Dance and made the event happen, as well as to everyone who participated in our first ever online auction!
At the Big Band Dance, we raised a record $16,445 for the music program. We raised an additional $8,355 in the online auction, for a grand total of $24,800!
We need to thank our intrepid leader, Kristi Waldron, who was once again Chair of the Big Band Dance; we appreciate her creativity, skill, and hard work in organizing and running this event.
Thanks also to Kent Kurrus for months of work planning and executing the fantastic student performances we enjoyed.

Congratulations to both the Orchestra and Concert Band for their incredible performances this month! The Concert Band placed 2nd and received a gold award in the WorldStrides Onstage Music Festival in Anaheim. In the Festival of Gold in Nashville Tennessee, the Orchestra received some of its highest adjudicator scores ever and earned a gold award for the fifth year in a row.

Thank you to everyone who helped with and attended the 2018 Big Band Dance! Over 430 people attended this celebratory event, including 100 students from the M-A community, and we raised over $20,000 dollars for our music program. Here are some pictures from the event:

M-A’s jazz bands were fantastic at the Delta Jazz Festival! The combo won 1st place and Jazz III and Jazz II both won 2nd place in their categories.

The Orchestra was invited to the WorldStrides Festival of Gold in Chicago, and earned a gold medal for their performance at Chicago’s Symphony Hall.

M-A’s Jazz Band III earned first place in the Advanced Jazz Band Category at the San Joaquin Delta Jazz Festival, and the Jazz Combo placed first for the second year in a row.
